Emotional Support
  • This can be given when the parents receive a distressing diagnosis
A listening ear
  • Someone to talk to who is not emotionally involved but understands the problems parents face
Information
  • Help to find appropriate services both for parents and their children
Advocacy
  • Help parents to prepare for meetings e.g. school reviews, clinics, children's hearings
 
  • Accompany parents to meetings and speak for them if required
 
  • Help to relieve the anxieties experienced by parents
 
  • Help parents to get the most out of meetings
Behaviour management
  • Help parents to identify the trigger points for disruptive behaviour
 
  • Develop strategies to help parents cope
 
  • Deliver a six week course which is adapted to the individual family's needs and delivered on a one to one basis in the family's own home
